George Carlin’s Views on Aging

February 3rd, 2007 by heavens21above

Do you realize that the only time in our lives when we like to get old is when we’re kids? If you’re less than 10 years old, you’re so excited about aging that you think in fractions.

"How old are you?" "I’m four and a half!" You’re never thirty-six and a half. You’re four and a half, going on five! That’s the key.

You get into your teens, now they can’t hold you back. You jump to the next number, or even a few ahead.

"How old are you?" "I’m gonna be 16!" You could be 13, but hey, you’re gonna be 16! And then the greatest day of your life . . you become 21. Even the words sound like a ceremony . YOU BECOME 21. YESSSS!!!

But then you turn 30. Oooohh, what happened there? Makes you sound like bad milk! He TURNED; we had to throw him out. There’s no fun now, you’re Just a sour-dumpling. What’s wrong? What’s changed?

You BECOME 21, you TURN 30, then you’re PUSHING 40. Whoa! Put on the brakes, it’s all slipping away. Before you know it, you REACH 50
and your dreams are gone.

But wait!!! You MAKE it to 60. You didn’t think you would!
So you BECOME 21, TURN 30, PUSH 40, REACH 50 and MAKE it to 60.

You’ve built up so much speed that you HIT 70! After that it’s a day-by-day thing; you HIT Wednesday!

You get into your 80s and every day is a complete cycle; you HIT lunch; you TURN 4:30; you REACH bedtime. And it doesn’t end there. Into the 90s, you start going backwards; "I Was JUST 92."

Then a strange thing happens. If you make it over 100, you become a little kid again. "I’m 100 and a half!"

May you all make it to a healthy 100 and a half!!

HOW TO STAY YOUNG

1. Throw out nonessential numbers. This includes age, weight and height. Let the doctors worry about them. That is why you pay "them "

2. Keep only cheerful friends. The grouches pull you down.

3. Keep learning. Learn more about the computer, crafts, gardening, whatever. Never let the brain idle. "An idle mind is the devil’s workshop." And the devil’s name is Alzheimer’s.
4. Enjoy the simple things.

5. Laugh often, long and loud. Laugh until you gasp for breath.

6. The tears happen. Endure, grieve, and move on. The only person, who is with us our entire life, is ourselves. Be ALIVE while you are alive.

7. Surround yourself with what you love, whether it’s family, pets, keepsakes, music, plants, hobbies, whatever. Your home is your refuge.

8. Cherish your health: If it is good, preserve it. If it is unstable, improve it. If it is beyond what you can improve, get help.

9 Don’t take guilt trips. Take a trip to the mall, even to the next county; to a foreign country but NOT to where the guilt is.

10. Tell the people you love that you love them, at every opportunity.

AND ALWAYS REMEMBER:

Life is not measured by the number of breaths we take, but by the moments that take our breath away.

+ A CHAT WITH GOD +

September 10th, 2006 by heavens21above

A conversation with God - something different

God : Hello. Did you call me?

Me: Called you? No.. who is this?

God : This is GOD. I heard your prayers. So I thought I will chat.

Me: I do pray. Just makes me feel good. I am actually busy now. I am
in the midst of something.

God : What are you busy at? Ants are busy too.

Me: Don’t know. But I cant find free time. Life has become hectic. It’s
rush hour all the time.

God : Sure. Activity gets you busy. But productivity gets you results.
Activity consumes time. Productivity frees it.

Me: I understand. But I still cant figure out. By the way, I was not
expecting YOU to buzz me on instant messaging chat.

God : Well I wanted to resolve your fight for time, by giving you some
clarity. In this net era, I wanted to reach you through the medium
you are comfortable with.

Me: Tell me, why has life become complicated now?

God : Stop analyzing life. Just live it. Analysis is what makes it
complicated.

Me: why are we then constantly unhappy?

God : Your today is the tomorrow that you worried about yesterday. You
are worrying because you are analyzing. Worrying has become
your habit. That’s why you are not happy.

Me: But how can we not worry when there is so much uncertainty?

God : Uncertainty is inevitable, but worrying is optional.

Me: But then, there is so much pain due to uncertainty..

God : Pain is inevitable, but suffering is optional.

Me: If suffering is optional, why do good people always suffer?

God : Diamond cannot be polished without friction. Gold cannot be
purified without fire. Good people go through trials, but don’t suffer.
With that experience their life become better not bitter.

Me: You mean to say such experience is useful?

God : Yes. In every terms, Experience is a hard teacher. She gives the
test first and the lessons afterwards.

Me: But still, why should we go through such tests? Why cant we be free
from problems?

God : Problems are Purposeful Roadblocks Offering Beneficial Lessons
(to) Enhance Mental Strength. Inner strength comes from struggle
and endurance, not when you are free from problems.

Me: Frankly in the midst of so many problems, we don’t know where we
are heading….

God : If you look outside you will not know where you are heading.
Look inside. Looking outside, you dream. Looking inside, you
awaken. Eyes provide sight. Heart provides insight.

Me: Sometimes not succeeding fast seems to hurt more than moving in
the right direction. What should I do?

God : Success is a measure as decided by others. Satisfaction is a
measure as decided by you. Knowing the road ahead is more
satisfying than knowing you rode ahead. You work with the
compass. Let others work with the clock.

Me: In tough times, how do you stay motivated?

God : Always look at how far you have come rather than how far you
have to go. Always count your blessing, not what you are missing.

Me: What surprises you about people?

God : when they suffer they ask, "why me?" When they prosper, they
never ask "Why me" Everyone wishes to have truth on their side,
but few want to be on the side of the truth.

Me: Sometimes I ask, who am I, why am I here. I cant get the answer.

God : Seek not to find who you are, but to determine who you want to
be.
Stop looking for a purpose as to why you are here. Create it.
Life is not a process of discovery but a process of creation.

Me: How can I get the best out of life?

God : Face your past without regret. Handle your present with
confidence. Prepare for the future without fear.

Me: One last question. Sometimes I feel my prayers are not answered.

God : There are no unanswered prayers. At times the answer is NO.

Me: Thank you for this wonderful chat. I am so happy to start the New
Year with a new sense of inspiration.

God : Well. Keep the faith and drop the fear. Don’t believe your doubts
and doubt your beliefs. Life is a mystery to solve not a problem to
resolve. Trust me. Life is wonderful if you know how to live.

The best use of life is love.
The best expression of love is time.
The best time to love is now. - Rick Warren

If a man wants you, nothing can keep him away.If he doesn’t want you, nothing can make him stay.Stop making excuses for a man and his behavior.Allow your intuition (or spirit) to save you from heartache. Stop tryingto change yourself for a relationship that’s not meant to be. Slower isbetter. Never live your life for a man before you find what makes youtruly happy. If a relationship ends because the man was not treating youas you deserve then heck no, you can’t "be friends". A friend wouldn’tmistreat a friend. Don’t settle. If you feel like he is stringing youalong, then he probably is. Don’t stay because you think "it will getbetter." You’ll be mad at yourself a year later for staying when thingsare not better. The only person you can control in a relationship isyou. Avoid men who’ve got a bunch of children by a bunch of differentwomen. He didn’t marry them when he got them pregnant, why would hetreat you any differently? Always have your own set of friends separatefrom his. Maintain boundaries in how a guy treats you. If somethingbothers you, speak up. Never let a man know everything. He will use itagainst you later. You cannot change a man’s behavior. Change comes fromwithin. Don’t EVER make him feel he is more important than youare…even if he has more education or in a better job. Do not make himinto a quasi-god. He is a man, nothing more nothing less. Never let aman define who you are. Never borrow someone else’s man. If he cheatedwith you, he’ll cheat on you. A man will only treat you the way youALLOW him to treat you. All men are NOT dogs. You should not be the onedoing all the bending…compromise is a two way street. You need time toheal between relationships…there is nothing cute about baggage…Deal with your issues before pursuing a new relationship. You shouldnever look for someone to COMPLETE you… a relationship consists of twoWHOLE individuals… look for someone complimentary…not supplementary.Dating is fun…even if he doesn’t turn out to be Mr. Right. Make himmiss you sometimes… when a man always know where you are, and you’realways readily available to him - he takes it for granted. Never moveinto his mother’s house. Never co-sign for a man. Don’t fully commit toa man who doesn’t give you everything that you need. Keep him in yourradar but get to know others.

BETWEEN LIFE & DEATH [www.crystalmeth.org]

April 17th, 2006 by heavens21above

20050513_101_350x263_2According to the Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA), crystal methamphetamine (meth) is the number one drug in rural America. And now, the crystal meth epidemic is spreading like wildfire in cities and suburbs across America. Crystal meth has become the new drug of choice for everyone from soccer moms to working moms. Even grade school students are being caught in its deadly grip. Meth is cheap and easy to make. The recipe includes over-the-counter cold medicine, household cleaners and toxic chemicals like battery acid. This drug crisis has forced many store owners to put cold remedies under lock and key. Thousands of homemade meth labs are popping up in kitchens, garages, even inside cars. In one Iowa town officials were forced to ban children from bringing baked goods to school because so many parents are cooking meth with the same utensils. It’s cheap, instantly addictive, often deadly—and it’s probably already in your neighborhood.

20050513_114_350x263_2 The toxic chemicals in crystal methamphetamine literally eat away brain tissue. The brain on the left is normal and the brain on the right is of a 28-year-old meth user.

"[Crystal meth] literally puts holes in your brain," Debra Jay explains. "Remember how Chantel was talking about her drug addiction? Just like it was nothing. You absolutely lose the ability to learn from past mistakes or to care about anything. And it’s not because she’s being bad. It’s because her brain no longer works. And this can be permanent. That’s why it was so important to get her into treatment."

Methamphetamine addicts go days without sleeping or eating and get what Debra Jay calls "a drug-induced anorexia." Malnourished, the body starts eating itself. First fat, then it starts eating muscle…

20050513_115_350x263_1 These pictures show the tragic toll that crystal meth can take on a person’s physical appearance. Bret King, a jail deputy in Oregon, took these photos of a woman on crystal meth three and a half years apart. (www.co.multnomah.or.us/sheriff/faces_of_meth.htm)

Debra Jay explains the change in the woman’s appearance. "First of all, you see all the sores on her face? When you’re using crystal meth, they start thinking bugs are under their skin and they start itching all the time. They call it ‘crank bugs.’ They get obsessive about it and then they started digging holes. They try to dig the bugs out of their skin. You see the holes on her face, if you could see the rest of her body… And then what happens, these sores become infected because typically where they’re using these drugs, you cannot believe the filth."

I Not Stupid Too

April 3rd, 2006 by heavens21above

Novel_big_4Encourage Teachers & Children to watch this movie.

I Not Stupid Too is a comedy keenly centred on the theme of increasingly difficult relationships between parents and their children today, due to a lack of communication. More than often, parents think they understand their children, based on the reasoning of I-gave-birth-to-you-so-I-know. But do they really? A child is most vulnerable at teen years, which is without doubt the most crucial period in the development of the child. A single wrong move by the parents can result in a lifetime of regrets. How well aware are the parents of this fact?

Set in Singapore’s fast-paced modern society, the narrative progresses through the eyes of 9-year-old Jerry as he and his older brother, Tom, face the pressures of school and demands of their wealthy but ever-bickering parents.

Along also for the ride is Tom’s friend, Cheng Cai, who is often misunderstood by his teacher at school, and whose own predicament with his single hawker-stall owning father reveals the film’s deep concern with the generation gap between its characters.

Through Tom and Cheng Cai, the film also delves into juvenile delinquency as a result of this breakdown in communication, while Jerry simultaneously runs around trying to get his parents to attend his upcoming performance in school.

Multi-faceted, insightful and highly entertaining, I Not Stupid Too features a large cast of talented actors and a delightful story every Singaporean can relate to.

Need_1                I hate the world today,
                You’re so good to me,
                I know, but I can’t change,
                Tried to tell you,
But you look at me like maybe,
                I’m an angel underneath,
                Innocent and sweet,
                Yesterday I cried,
You must have been relieved to see,
                The softer side,
I can understand how you’d be so                        confused,
                I don’t envy you,
I’m a little bit of everything,
                All rolled into one

                Chorus:

                I’m a bitch,
                I’m a lover,
                I’m a child,
                I’m a mother,
                I’m a sinner,
                I’m a saint,
                I do not feel ashamed,
                I’m your hell,
                I’m your dream,
                I’m nothing in between,
You know you wouldn’t want it any other way

So take me as I am,
                This may mean
You’ll have to be a stronger man,
                Rest assure that,
When I start to make you nervous,
                And I’m going to extremes,
                Tomorrow I will change,
And today won’t mean a thing

                  Chorus

                Just when you think,
                You got me figured out,
                The season’s already changing,
                I think it’s cool,
                You do what you do,
And don’t try to save me

                Chorus

                I’m a bitch,
                I’m a tease,
                I’m a goddess,
                On my knees,
                When you hurt,
                When you suffer,
                I’m your angel undercover,
                I’ve been numb,
                I’m revived,
                Can’t say I’m not alive,
You know I wouldn’t want it any other way

Blackbeard

March 22nd, 2006 by heavens21above

As a young man in the late 1600s, Edward Teach joined the crew of a British ship that was headed to the Caribbean. Much later in his nautical career, he managed to capture a merchant vessel and turn it into a 40-gun warship. Teach soon became known as Blackbeard—the most feared pirate in the hemisphere.

Blackbeard had some success as a pirate, but his "career" abruptly ended when he encountered a contingent of the British Royal Navy. In a desperate battle, he and his fellow pirates were killed, putting an end to their terrorizing exploits.

Read:
Isaiah 14:12-15

Long ago in the heavenly places, an angel fell into spiritual piracy. Lucifer was a cherub who stood in the radiant glory of God (Ezekiel 28:11-15). But his own self-love replaced love for his Creator. Desiring to be like the Most High, he led a rebellion and was cast out of heaven (Isaiah 14:12-15). Today he and his henchmen are doing whatever they can to commandeer the lives of human beings (Luke 8:12; 2 Corinthians 4:4).

Even so, we don’t need to be afraid. Satan is a dangerous enemy, but Jesus sealed his ultimate fate when He rose from the dead. And He has given us everything we need to withstand the devil’s attacks (Ephesians 6:10-18). —Dennis Fisher

And though this world with devils filled
Should threaten to undo us;
We will not fear, for God has willed
His truth to triumph through us. —Luther

He who is in you is greater than he who is in the world. —1 John 4:4
